Aftercare
We use Derm Shield on all of the tattoos we do unless you request to not use it. Derm Shield, Saniderm, and other second skins, is a common tattoo aftercare bandage that helps protect a new tattoo during the healing process. It's a clear, breathable, and waterproof film that allows the skin to heal while preventing irritation from dirt, bacteria, and abrasion.
How it works:
Protection: Derm Shield creates a barrier between the fresh tattoo and the outside world, protecting it from potential infections and damage.
Breathability: It allows the skin to breathe, preventing excessive moisture buildup, which can hinder healing.
Waterproof: Derm Shield is waterproof, allowing you to shower or wash without damaging the tattoo. Reduced
Scabbing: By keeping the tattoo protected and moist, Derm Shield helps reduce scabbing and potential scarring.
Instructions for use:
1. Application: We will apply the first layer of Derm Shield after the tattoo is completed.
2. Duration: The first application is usually left on for 24 hours.
3. Removal and Cleaning: Remove the first Derm Shield in the shower, pulling it off like a command strip, gently washing the area with unscented soap and water.
4. Second Application: Apply a second layer of Derm Shield, ensuring it covers the tattoo and a bit of the surrounding skin.
5. Continued Healing: Leave the second Derm Shield in place for 3-5 days, or until it's no longer adhering properly.
6. Final Healing: Once removed, continue to care for your tattoo with unscented lotion and gentle cleaning.
Important Considerations:
Fluid Build-up: It's normal for fluid to collect under the Derm Shield, especially with color tattoos.
Air Bubbles: If air bubbles form, try to work them out with your fingers.
Third Application: If the second application fills with fluid, a third application can be used. Do not scratch or pick at the tattoo .
Other Brands: Derm Shield is a brand name, but similar products like Saniderm and Second Skin are also used for tattoo aftercare and function similarly.
